Development of Atlantic in responsible manner objective of five-state pact
(June 19, 2009) Five states have banded together to protect and responsibly develop the region's ocean.
In early June, the governors of Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, New Jersey and New York signed an agreement on ocean conservation and created the Mid-Atlantic Regional Council on the Ocean. The partnership was designed to address issues facing the region's ocean waters. Those issues are water quality, climate change, offshore energy and habitat protection.

its third meeting of 2009 in Tampa, Florida from Monday, June 15 until
Thursday, June 18, 2009. The following is a synopsis of the major
issues discussed by the Council during the meeting.

Implementing the New Annual Catch Limits and Accountability Measures of
the Reauthorized MSA of 2006
The Gulf Council took their first look at the public scoping document* for implementation of the new legal requirements for annual catch limits (ACL) and accountability measures (AM).

President Obama Issues Memorandum Calling for Development of a National Ocean Policy |
Washington, D.C. (June 17, 2009) – The Obama Administration ordered the creation of the Interagency Ocean Policy Task Force led by the Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) to develop recommendations within 90 days for a national ocean policy that ensures the health of ocean, coastal and Great Lakes ecosystems and resources. Its aims are to improve coordination among federal and state government activities that affect the marine and Great Lakes environments, and to enhance the sustainability of ocean and coastal economies. Within 180 days the task force must also develop recommendations for a system of comprehensive marine spatial planning.
